John Garrity is Cisco's Global Policy Advisor in the Global Technology Policy group, managing government engagement and policy research. John is responsible for data-driven analysis on broadband connectivity issues contributing to the expansion of fixed and wireless networks, including national broadband agendas, Internet protocol network traffic and Internet governance.
With over ten years of experience in economic development in the state, national, international and private sector arenas, John engages governments and other private and public sector partners on the implementation of policies that leverage the potential of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and network connectivity for economic growth, competitiveness, and social inclusion.
He is recognized internationally as an expert on broadband economics, with numerous publications and reports written with the World Economic Forum, the UN International Telecommunications Union and the World Bank. He is frequently asked to speak on ICTs and growth across Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Previously, John was Strategy Manager in Cisco's Strategy and Economics group, helping to guide strategic direction of the Emerging Markets business unit with geographic market coverage of over 130 countries, 2,500 personnel and US$7.5 billion in annual revenue. Before joining Cisco in 2006, John worked at the World Bank in the Corporate Strategy Group, and has held positions in the U.S. Federal Trade Commission as well as in state government. He holds a Master’s degree in Applied Economics from Ohio State University.
